This Sunday is a great time to come and get to know us with a more informal worship time followed by lunch. We are providing the ham and turkey, and you are invited to bring a favorite side or salad that you can share. You are also encouraged to bring your own disposable tableware. Since our “picnic” is on location indoors, there will be no rain cancellation!
Larkin High School students have the option of reserving a parking space in our church lot, to be held during school hours throughout the school year. The donation for the year is $75, or $40 per semester. All donations go to the costs of resurfacing the lot and painting it with the lines and assigned numbers so that we can provide this service to the Larkin student community. If you are interested please call the church at 847-888-2302 and we will mail you an application. Please note that a valid driver’s license, proof of insurance, and the consent signature of a parent or legal guardian, are all required.
The church is excited and pleased that Luke Johnson will stay on as youth director beyond the end of the summer, taking an interim role. While our search for our next youth director is active and ongoing (for a description see the “Staff” page) Luke will help us in the transition. The summer program ends on August 17th. He and his wife Kelly will go on vacation and then Luke will be on hand to launch the Fall program on Wednesday, September 7.
Elgin Covenant Church is the home to a registered chapter of MOPS (Mothers of Pre-Schoolers), where Moms can gather, make friends and learn tips while their kids are cared for. Our MOPS chapter is led by Amy Wilson and Sue Bob. They are hosting a Rummage Sale at the church on Friday and Saturday, August 12 and 13, from 9am-4pm. All proceeds from this Rummage Sale will go to the MOPS program at Elgin Covenant. Enter the church at the Fellowship Hall doors and proceed downstairs.
Donations for the MOPS Rumamge Sale will be received until Thursday August 11, 2 pm. We cannot accept furniture, computer equipment, textbooks, exercise equipment or anything requiring more than one pair of hands to carry.
North Park Seminary intern Luke Johnson was so awesome as our youth director we convinced him to stay with us through the summer even after his graduation. Now the summer is ending and he and his wife Kelly are moving on. The two most EXTREME ultimate frisbee players I have ever met are going to be missed at Elgin Covenant. Thank you, Luke, for the memories. And by the way, thank you for getting this website launched, too!
We had not posted the search to this website because we wanted to give our partnering seminary the first opportunity to place a candidate. Now we are opening up the search and publicizing it. For a job description, please go to the “Staff Page.” Pray for the church as we look for that next special person who can recognize the opportunity here, with a high school of 2000 students right next door. I’m looking forward to the next interview! –Pastor Jonathan
Baseball Night Rained Out
Over thirty people of all ages at our church signed up for the “All Faiths Night” baseball game August 8th between the Kane County Cougars and the Wisconsin Timber Rattlers. Unfortunately a series of cloud bursts moving through the area in the afternoon had us cancel our trip, and sure enough, the game was postponed. Whether or not we try to make up the date with the Cougars is tbd, but we are overjoyed to know that the people of our church were interested in getting together for this multi-generational event.
