In January and February we are participating in mission projects that reach around the world and to our nearest neighbors.
Beads and Bandages
On Tuesday, January 24th, 1:30 PM, we will have a “Beads and Bandages Work Day.” The purpose is to assemble medical kits for use in Congo, one of the poorest nations in the world. All are invited to participate; the project is sponsored by our Covenant Women. Snacks will be provided.
A Winter Walk-a-thon???
On Saturday, February 11th, please join us for the Wayside “walk a mile in my shoes.” This is a fundraising walk-a-thon for Wayside Center of Elgin, a shelter that provides daytime ministries for the homeless. Pledge envelopes are available at our church or at Wayside Center of Elgin, 1732 Berkley Street. The walk begins with gathering and registration at 8:30 AM, and then departure at 9:00 AM. The walk is 1.43 miles.
You may be wondering, “Isn’t February a strange time to hold a walk-a-thon in northern Illinois?” With that question you grasp the concept of “walk in my shoes.” Homelessness knows no season, and the necessity of walking through the snow and elements to get from one service-provider to another is the reality for many of Wayside’s clients.
At the conclusion of activities for walk-a-thoners at the center, shuttles will return you to the church. Each walker is challenged to set themselves the goal of raising $100 dollars; any donation amount is gratefully received. For more details about the walk-a-thon you may contact Josh Bray at Wayside, 847-695-4405.
